HIV/AIDS Prevention Curriculum Review

Hello Parents and Guardians,

In accordance with Washington State law, (RCW 28A.230.070) Elma Middle School offers instruction in HIV/AIDS prevention to all students.  One requirement of this law is that parents wishing to excuse their children from this instruction must preview the curriculum and materials that will be used for this instruction.  We are offering you the opportunity to review these materials in three ways.

Option 1: Conference Preview

You may choose to review the materials in the Middle School's Library during Fall conference week.  You can review these instructional materials and, if you wish, excuse your child(ren) from this instruction.  The preview time is designed for you to drop in and review the materials at your convenience.  You are not required to make an appointment.

2018-19 Conference Week:     November 6th to 9th

Option 2: Online Preview

You may view the curriculum on this website (link below).  When you are finished, if you wish to excuse your child(ren) from this instruction, complete the online "Request to Excuse" form.  You can drop the form off at the Middle School office prior to December 1st.  Your child(ren) will be added to our list of excused students.

Option 3: School Site Preview

You may also choose to review materials at the school's office.  If you wish to have your child(ren) excused from HIV instruction after you have previewed the materials, please request the form and give it to a school office staff member prior to December 1st.  Your child(ren) will be added to our list of excused students.

Please Note: If you wish to excuse your child(ren), you must complete the form each school year.  "Request to Excuse" forms will not be kept from year to year.

If you have any questions about the curriculum and instruction related to HIV/AIDS, please contact Jule Stout, school counselor, at or 360-482-2237, ext. 2115.
